We aim to demystify retirement by guiding you through the various intricacies of investment strategies, asset allocation, and retirement decisions. We prioritize client service and education, empowering you with the knowledge to make informed choices about your financial future.
Our Planning Process
Our process-driven program includes evaluation of your current situation, identifying areas for enhancement, and asset reallocation recommendations as appropriate.
The Retirement Empowerment Workshop: Our introductory workshop for engineers and executives within a 10 year window of retirement, will give you a high-level overview of AdviceOne’s approach to retirement planning. Over the course of 90 minutes, we’ll educate you on important things to know about your 401(k) plan and give you an overview of our philosophies.
Your First Meeting: Following the workshop, we’ll get you scheduled for an individual introductory meeting that we call the Insight Meeting. This is your opportunity to pepper us with any questions that you have and to get to know us on an individual basis. If you’re ready, in that meeting we’d also start gathering data so that we can jump right into the advice should you decide to continue. Feel free to bring as much or as little information to this meeting as you are comfortable with. Or, we can simply chat over a cup of coffee and pick back up when you’re ready.
Cut-through Planning: The first thing we will do after your Insight Meeting is to start applying some of the philosophies you’ve learned about to your personal circumstances. We’ll log into Your Gateway to make sure you’re taking advantage of all the opportunities you have, from Roth conversions and contribution strategies to NUA decisions.
We’re also going to start building out your retirement spreadsheet – collaboratively. AdviceOne is never going to hand you a 50 page document that shows you your likelihood of success; rather, we’re going to build your spreadsheet together, making sure we all understand the inputs and variables at play.
Throughout these first meetings, we start to weigh in and offer our AdviceOne perspective on any unique aspects of the retirement you want for you and your family. Whatever your goals are, we want to empower you to achieve them: maybe it’s a second home in Florida, or making sure you leave behind the most efficient and effective legacy you can.
These first interactions with AdviceOne are your opportunity to kick the tires and decide if we have what it takes to keep up with you. At your 4th meeting, we would charge our planning fee – for most people $2,500.
Uncovering the Possibilities: Once we arrive at the version of retirement that shows everything you can dream up, that becomes our foundation when it comes to solving for your unique asset allocation. Based on your different sources of income and accounting for all the spending you want to do, we can solve for the Net Present Value of your retirement withdrawals. We’ll use simple arithmetic to determine how much of your nest egg we need to put on the sideline to protect you from short-term market volatility. We’ll provide you with written recommendations on how all of your accounts should be allocated to make this plan a reality.
Estate Planning and Tax Assistance: It’s important for us to have a good gauge of your taxes and your estate planning documents. We gather your last few years of tax returns and your estate planning documents and put them both in a 1-page synopsis to assist with your planning. Although we can’t and won’t give official tax or legal advice, it’s important we have some insight into these aspects of your plan. By putting each into their own one-page synopsis, and systematically coming back to them, it helps us to keep all aspects of your plan on track.
Asset Management: If along the way you decide you’d like AdviceOne to help you with the management of your assets, our team will walk you through opening your accounts and the different transfer processes. We understand this is a big decision to make, so we’ll follow your pace. Our experience is that you’re going to want to start slowly and continue to build your relationship with AdviceOne over time. For our management, we charge loosely 1%.
Consistent touch points: Once all of your initial plan has been completed, we still would like to maintain a schedule to review your accounts and your situation on a 4-month basis. We meet with you more frequently during major life transitions – buying a new home, supporting children through marriage, or other milestones. Should you decide to retire – that year we may meet upwards towards 8-10 times that year. There’s never a limit to the number of meetings you can have in a year, but we want to make sure we keep on top of the plan through regular reviews.
Social Elements: To supplement your review schedule, we offer various workshops through our Client Enrichment Series that are exclusively for our AdviceOne clients. We also plan social events to show our appreciation – and to help you keep in touch with colleagues.
